(Sko-lee-OH-sis) is a curvature of the spine. It is usually detected in school screenings in or around fifth grade. Most cases are not a cause for concern as many cases never progress. If a curve does progress, it is treated with a back brace to stop the curve or at least slow it down from progressing too quickly during adolescence. When a curve reaches 50 degrees or more, then surgery is discussed.
